Best Places to go out in Amsterdam at Night

solo travel nightlife amsterdam

Famed for its picturesque canals, world-class museums, and stunning architecture, Amsterdam is one of Europe’s finest tourist destinations with plenty of amazing attractions. It’s definitely one of those cities that you can instantly fall in love with. I’ve visited Amsterdam on numerous occasions and every time there was something new to discover.

If you wish to experience the real Amsterdam, forget about the stereotypes. The Dutch capital has so much more to offer than the infamous Red Light District and all the touristy pub crawls. Today, I wish to talk about the city’s vibrant nightlife. Whether you wish to spend the evening in a casual bar or café, dance the night away at one of the city’s clubs or go on a romantic canal boat tour, there is so much to choose from. Here is my list of the best places to go out at night in Amsterdam.

Air Club

Club Air Amsterdam

The Air club is one of the newest additions to Amsterdam’s nightlife scene.  With five bars, state-of-the-art lighting, and three separate areas, this amazing club boasts a lively atmosphere and is a great place to go out if you are into clubbing. The music at the Air Club spans hip-hop, R&B, techno and they offer a VIP experience with secure table service and other perks.

De Foodhallen

De Foodhallen Amsterdam

I love the local cuisine here in Amsterdam and De Foodhallen is definitely the best place in the city to sample some local flavors at night. Whether you wish to try the herring sandwich, order the delicious stroopwafel, or try the signature bitterballen, there is no shortage of excellent food options here. De Foodhalen also offers a variety of International foods ranging from sushi and dim sum to American burgers, Greek meze, and Vietnamese food delicacies.

Jimmy Woo

Jimmy Woo Amsterdam

Locates just off Leidseplein, Jimmy Woo is a luxurious two-floor night club where both locals and tourists come to dance the night away. What I like most about this club is that compared to bigger clubs in the city, Jimmy Woo offers a more intimate vibe. The Asian-themed bar is also super cute and they serve the best cocktails ever, although they are a bit on the expensive side. Keep in mind that club’s door policy is strict, so it’s best to arrive earlier in the evening.

Concertgebouw Amsterdam

If listening to a live music performance at one of the finest concert halls is something you might enjoy, I recommend paying a visit to the incredible Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. With three different halls that have a reputation for having the best acoustics in the world, the program at the concert hall offers a wide range of events including live jazz acts, piano music, children’s concerts and much more. Since Concertgebouw is one of the most-visited concert halls in Europe, it’s best to purchase your tickets well in advance.

Hannekes Boom

Hannekes Boom Amsterdam

One of the most popular hang-out spots in summer, Hannekes Boom is my favorite waterfront café in Amsterdam. Their waterside terrace is just amazing and offers spectacular views of the canals. Don’t expect anything fancy at this lovely beach bar, but maybe that’s what makes it appealing and special. The café also hosts many events ranging from vinyl evenings to DJ’s and Blues and Jazz themed parties. I recommend visiting Hannekes Boom for an early evening drink, as it is the best time to admire the beauty of Amsterdam’s canals.

Paradiso Amsterdam

A cultural center and a music venue, Paradiso has been around for a long long time and is a great place to see live music shows. Some of the most popular artists played shows here including Lady Gaga and Franz Ferdinand. What l like about Paradiso is the fact they cover the entire music spectrum. Whether you wish to see a blues concert, watch an up-and-coming indie band take the stage, or unwind with some reggae beats, I am sure you’ll find it here. It’s also worth mentioning that besides concerts, the venue hosts events like dance performances and lectures.

Amsterdam Canal Cruise

7 Amsterdam Canal Cruise

An evening canal boat cruise is one of the most relaxing things to do in Amsterdam. Don’t get me wrong. The cruises during the day are also great, but the evening boat tours when the water reflects the city’s lights are a memorable experience worth having. Luckily, there are many different types of canal cruises to choose from. For candle-lit romantic canal cruises for couples and boat tours that focus on architecture and history, you are spoilt for choice.
