Books to read while traveling alone

before travelling alone

Travelling solo isn’t always bunnies and rainbows, it has it’s ups and downs. However, I feel like the ups generally out-weigh the bad. Sometimes the best thing you can to do reassure yourself to book that ticket, make that trip is to read from those who are doing it. Today’s blog post is a list of books to read before travelling alone. In celebration of our book club forum and newly designed resources page I’m bringing you a quick blog post on some of my favourite books to read before you go travelling alone. These true stories will inspire and cure any fears. They will get your heart racing and bags packed. Most importantly, they will make any of your travelling solo fears look like childs play.

Please include in the comments any of your favourites or go directly to our book club forum – of course, you must be a member, but its FREE!

Return To Glow: A Pilgrimage of Transformation in Italy

I know, you are probably sick of hearing me talk about this book but I really enjoyed it I couldn’t put the book down! I was lucky enough to Interview Chandi about this book, you can read part 1 and part 2 here.

This book is about Chandis real-life experience on a pilgrimage through Italy. she undertook this Pilgrimage after experiencing a divorce and near death experience.  Certainly one to read for anyone going through life change or anyone with a love of Italy.

What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding: A Memoir

A great book! Funny, Sexy, honest, exciting! What more can I say. This is the perfect book to read for that single, solo travelling, sexy, flirty lady who is in no way ready to settle down yet!

How Not to Travel the World: Adventures of a Disaster-Prone Backpacker

If you have not already read this book, you should! Lauren tells her story about her travel failures, travelling with anxiety and well… how NOT to travel. I have been a fan of Laurens blog for some time and even remember following along as she was writing this book.

Reading this makes me feel better about ALL of my travel failures  and there are a lot of those. It reminds you that you are human and that travelling is all about making mistakes and growing from them.

Love with a Chance of Drowning

I read this book some time ago and LOVED it! Whilst the writter is not travelling alone, you can still be impressed by her self growth, courage and balls in this book! I sure hope it inspires you, be it to fall in love, take a chance, take up sailing or book that plane ticket.

It’s a story about how Torre falls in love and agrees to go sailing around the pacific with this very new found love despite her fear of the water. The book will have you on the edge and most certainly inspired you to travel around the pacific islands (probably by sail boat).

Wanderlust: A Love Affair with Five Continents

It was quite some time ago that I read this book but I really enjoyed it. I read it when I was single, going through a break up and travelling. It was a great read to know that I was not on my own and that I should be simply enjoying myself.

I was impressed my Elisabeth s courage and personality that come through in this book. It’s a really good read.

The Worrier’s Guide to the End of the World: Love, Loss, and Other Catastrophes–through Italy, India, and Beyond

If you manage to read and LOVE “Love with a Chance of Drowning” you will probably be left thinking “what happens next”… Finally, now we have a way to know.
