Is Greece good for solo travel?

Safety:

Safety:Very safe

Greece is generally considered safe for solo female travelers. The locals are friendly and willing to help if needed. However, like any country, it has areas that are safer than others. The cities, such as Athens, are generally safe but require the same precautions you would take when visiting any large city. Keep your possessions close, avoid dark and secluded areas at night, and be aware of pickpockets in crowded places. The Greek islands are very safe and you can feel comfortable exploring them on your own. Greek people are known for their hospitality and many solo female travelers have pleasant experiences when visiting Greece.
Transport:

Transport:Easy

Greece is relatively accessible and comfortable for solo female travelers. The country has advanced infrastructure with various methods of transportation available, making it easy to navigate between regions and islands. Locals are generally friendly and willing to help, and many people, especially in bigger cities or tourist areas, speak English. However, language barriers may exist in rural regions. Remember to plan ahead, particularly for island hopping to ensure efficient travel.
Things to do:

Things to do:Fascinating

Greece is an incredibly interesting destination teeming with a blend of rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and a vibrant culture. As a solo traveler, you will never run out of things to do. Its islands offer pristine beaches, and you can spend your time swimming, snorkeling, or simply basking in the sun. The country is also peppered with ancient archaeological sites and museums for history lovers. Furthermore, its cities give you a taste of the modern Greek culture, with locals that are genuinely friendly and accommodating. The food scene is also something to look forward to, from traditional tavernas to modern Mediterranean cuisine. Greece truly offers a variety of activities that cater to different interests.
Food:

Food:Excellent

Greece is a food paradise that offers a fascinating mix of flavors. Greek cuisine is rich, diverse and rated high for its use of fresh ingredients, including a wide variety of locally sourced vegetables, herbs, grains, cheese, fish, and fruits. Local specialties such as moussaka, souvlaki, and authentic Greek salad are a must-try. However, those who prefer an assortment of international cuisines might not find it as diverse.
Budget:

Budget:Moderate

Greece can be fairly budget-friendly depending on the time of year and locations you visit. Major cities like Athens are more affordable compared to famous tourist islands like Santorini. Accommodation, food, and local transportation are reasonably priced. However, costs can increase quickly if you choose to visit more popular islands or indulge in upscale dining and luxury accommodation.

Group travel experience

I felt very safe in Greece. I was there on a holiday trip with my family, and we went to Paros, Naxos & Athen. It was absolutely stunning and amazing. The food is great, and the atmosphere is great. I even went out on nights alone, and I felt so safe:)

Couple travel experience

Feel really safe in every places. Recommendation to visit the Islands. The food is too expensive for the quality, as in Italy. Locals are really friendly, we enjoyed to stay in homestay. You can travel by boat easily.

Group travel experience

I travelled to Greece in 2020 and the experience was amazing. I travelled with a group and experience many different areas and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I would definitely go back and visit some of the other islands that I did not get to see. I was a bit disappointed to see how they live where their homes were, but overall it was a great experience, the tourist that I went on were fantastic. I got to meet a lot of wonderful people and experience the culture of Greece.

Solo travel experience

First solo travel experience and it was great. Felt safe the entire time both in Athens and the islands (Naxos, Santorini, Crete) Was definitely more cautious and aware of my surroundings in Athens and didn't stay out late after dark, but would have felt safe doing so. Islands felt 100% safe, no concerns at all. People everywhere were super friendly and helpful and speak English so no language barrier if you are a native English speaker. Got scammed on transportation from ferry terminal to hotel on Santorini so definitely arrange transportation to your lodging facility before hand. Overall trip was 10/10!

Solo travel experience

I was in Greece in July on my own - first 2 days in Athens, then a cheap flight to Santorini. I highly recommend it. It was hot, but amazing. Santorini is a small island; you can rent a scooter and go around the island in 1-2 days. I don't recommend staying in Oia or Thira, as the prices are high and there are lots of people. I stayed in Perissa and it was great. Overall, Greece pleasantly surprised me and I definitely want to go back there, even if just for the food.

Solo travel experience

This year I went alone and it was fantastic. My route included Athens, Corfu, Zakynthos, Meteora, Crete, Milos and Santorini for a month. A beautiful and safe country with friendly and helpful people. The transport was good, the ferries were great for crossing to the islands. I recommend taking a tour in every place. You will get to know it better than by yourself.

Solo travel experience

I visited 3 beautiful islands in Greece: Mykonos, Naxos and Santorini. First, I visited Mykonos, which is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. It is known for its ancient windmills overlooking the sea and a small beach in the city center, called "Venice Beach". There is also a wonderful beach "Super Paradise". The only drawback is the hotel prices, which are quite high. I recommend booking a hotel away from the city center and renting a scooter. Then I took a ferry to Naxos, a very vibrant island, which I liked very much. It is known for its historical arch, the old Venetian Castle, and cafes overlooking the marina and paradise beaches (especially Plaka Beach). And the grand finale was Santorini. I had to take a ferry from Naxos to get there. Hotels are cheaper than on Mykonos. There are three places to visit: Fira, Firostefani and Oia. Oia is the most famous, but most people stay in a hotel in the center of Fira, from where you can take buses to various places (to Oia or Firostefani).

Solo travel experience

Naxos was my favorite island - beautiful beaches, traditional small villages, ancient ruins and delicious restaurants. I also loved Santorini, but I was there in October, so it was not too crowded. I'm not sure if I would go there in the summer, but the place is breathtaking.

Solo travel experience

I spent 10 days in Greece last summer, and the travel plan was as follows: 3 days in Santorini, 2 days in Ios, 1 day in Naxos, 3 days in Paros, 1 day in Mykonos. Naxos and Paros were my favorites. If you like to party, Ios is a good place to do that. Mykonos was very expensive.

Is Greece safe for women?

Regina

Regina

Greece is a safe country. Of course, there are areas where you could potentially be robbed, but there's no need to avoid the entire country. You should be particularly cautious in the metro and on buses with your personal belongings. Also, keep in mind that if something unfortunate happens, it's not always the fault of the Greeks; there are people from almost all nationalities living here. Despite these precautions, you can enjoy a country with sun nearly all year round, great weather, numerous cultural monuments, and of course, the sea.

In my opinion, Greece is no longer safe. You may feel safe when you walk around but there are many weird and creepy guys who may follow you or start talking to you and make you uncomfortable and worried. Be careful and stay safe

About Me

I travel frequently for work. I've travelled extensively for both work and play (with my ex-boyfriends). I'm late forties, Indian origin but born/bred in UK with many careers across many countries. Due to this I'm a good sleeper, slept through a hurricane in the past! Even with lots of light coming through I'm okay sleeping. I run my own businesses & my team are across different timezones so I'm an early riser emailing them, which I do quietly. I'm self-funding my various tech companies so need to watch pennies .. like everyone post COVID. I'm usually very chatty as I love finding out about others. But equally respectful if ladies want their privacy, just say I'm on/off allergic to dogs but am great with cats. I tend to sort out food for myself and clean up after myself. Oh my hair length & style change a lot ... the Gemini in me
