Safety: me and my friend L. (also a woman) felt very in this city. Things to do: a lot of sightseeing and museums, for example the heineken one. Food: lots of great vegan options in almost all restaurants we stopped by. Accommodation: we stayed together at the Mercure Hotel, so it was a little bit more expensive. But 100% worth the price. Transport: we travelled mostly with the train (very punctual) and once with the taxi due to a storm, which caused all public transportation to stop working.

It was my second time in Amsterdam. I bought a day pass for 60€, so I got into the museums for free. But you have to make a reservation for the museums 1 month in advance. I tried many potatoes, the best one was at "Fabel Friet". My recommendation was blind ketchup, truffle mayonnaise and Parmesan cheese. It tastes incredibly good. I had stroopwafel at Queen Stroopwafel and it was very good. You can visit safely on your own.
Posted: April 7, 2024Went on a solo trip to Amsterdam in March 2024, I stayed for 3 days and really enjoyed my visit. It was my first time in Amsterdam and the Netherlands, but it was very easy to travel alone and I always felt safe even though it was my first time travelling alone. It’s easy to get around the Netherlands by train as they have good connections and Amsterdam is a perfect city for walking. They also have free ferries across the IJ-canal that run basically every other minute throughout the day so it’s very comfortable if you live across the river (like I did) and want to explore the city centre. I felt safe in Amsterdam, and there were always lots of people around you, even in the evenings. I think it’s a city where its easy to meet new people. Very nice to just walk around the city and see all the diffrent parts of Amsterdam. It’s totally unique in its way. Would love to go back!
Posted: April 1, 2024Felt very safe walking around at night. There were lots of people around and I did not get catcalled at all (unlike in other countries). I was a very happy camper! Trams were also super easy to use!!!
Posted: April 1, 2024I was in the Netherlands with my partner - he was born there. It's the most beautiful city I've ever been to. I felt safe out there on my own, even though our apartment was in the red light district. Public transportation is easy to understand and also inexpensive. Attention: you only have access to the trains with a ticket! The food etc. was rather expensive but very tasty. In addition, you can be at the sea in about 50 minutes!
Posted: February 26, 2024I went to Amsterdam in first week of December and I loved it! Some key points I remember: They are great for dairy food (cheese, eggs etc) so I’d get some form of this in every meal. Tap water is safe to drink but they will charge you for water if you ask in a restaurant so perhaps carry a water bottle around. The people were very friendly and would happily take pictures of me and my friend and then strike up conversations. It’s a very diverse city and there are also many tourists from around Europe and US. I have a sweet tooth so I would get an oli bollon every day! The transport links are fairly easy (didn’t end up paying for some buses and just walked on if they didn’t have a barrier - otherwise remember to to tap in AND out) Nightlife we went to club air (bit boujee with quite strict staff), supper club, and jimmy choo (all sort of r&b, afrobeats, Dutch rap vibes). We went to Smokey coffee shop and im quite petite and ate half a muffin and felt too high and was sick lol, so pace yourself if you know you have a low tolerance. (My friend on the other hand was completely fine). no queues at airport and new machines so I took more liquids and a side bag Sex museum was fun and relatively cheap!

Last summer I went to Amsterdam it was really nice. Exceeded my expectations. I had dinner in a vegan restaurant TerraZen. The food was amazing Lots of things to do and all types of people. For women there is a really great female friendly hostel!
Posted: February 5, 2024Experienced: May, 2023It was really great meeting new people visit the city but I think 2-3 days are enough and think to reserve things before like Anne frank house or museum. There are a lot of French people (if you are French and don’t really speak good English). Good point they speak really good English

It was cold as North Pole!! Joking aside, it was freezing, and that really makes difficult to walk for long hours outside. 🥶 City view is always amazing, summer or winter. You can find things to do, museums to see and ofc if you try something new there are coffeeshops everywhere but it was not my thing actually so i cant say more about that:) but the smell was heavy and it was all over the streets so if you have any problem with that i dont recommend. Its a beautiful city, lot of people from all around the world, if you dont enter like back streets you never have a problem with safety. You xan also find any kinds of food, if you have special preferences i’m sure you’ll find something for yourself too. (we eat halal food and we could find it everywhere)

I traveled here with a friend of mine. We walked everyone and took a train once. I never ever felt unsafe at any point and everyone really kept to themselves. Because it was cold I feel like there was less to do but honestly I travel to see the place itself and its architecture/landscape and to eat food. It is a lot of walking and I would not recommend any shoes besides sneakers that are good. I will say to do a canal tour, I did one with my Airbnb host. Try fable friet, go to a stroopwaffle stand and try the smash burger place meijard. I wanted to try more places but those I remember the names of. I also went to more places but none stuck out to me too too much. The food was not bad though, don’t get me wrong. I used my credit card for mostly everything but did get euros for when I wanted to pay my Airbnb host for the canal ride and to give money to the man who gives food to the pigeons. I think I spent around 300 probably less in the four days I was there not including my Airbnb. My Airbnb was great and it was in a quiet location away from city center. We took the ferry to and from every day. If anyone wants to know who the host was I would love to get you connected. I didn’t have an itinerary just went along with my days but if any questions feel free to ask and i’ll answer to the best of my knowledge!

Amsterdam deels like a very safe city to me, during daytime you’ve got nothing to worry about, no matter where you are (in my experience). After dark just be vigilant when you’re on your own and don’t go to completely empty areas, just like in any city on your own at night.
Posted: May 6, 2024The city centre feels very safe. Watch out for pickpockets and alayslock your bike, tho. In the late evening in the centre, there are groups of people in front of bars, but they seem harmless. Zuidoost is very quiet.

The best places to thrift shop: - "ijhallen", this one is pretty famous. It is the biggest flee market in Europe and has lots of different stands. The market is twice a month on Saturday and Sunday, but you should check their website. I think its a great place for just about anything you are looking for. It is easy accessible with the ferry! You do need to buy a ticket beforehand, which is about 6 euros, but its totally worth it. Also, its recommended to bring some cash. - gideon. This second hand shop has a variety of things. On one hand, trash, on the other hand, really cheap cute clothes. You need to do some digging, but since there are multiple shops in Amsterdam, it cant hurt to visit. - there are many local "kringloopwinkels". My favorites are 'de buurt kringloop', 'kringloop west' and 'kilosale amsterdam.' the shop owners are really nice and you really get the local feeling. These shops aren't really in the city centre, but within a 20 minute bike ride, you will find them. Have fun!
Posted: January 24, 2024Museums - I highly recommend the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Moco, Hermitage, Stedelijk, Red Light Secrets, Sexual Art Museum, Diamond Museum, Van Loon Museum, Anne Frank House, Body Worlds, Eye Filmmuseum, and Ripley's Believe it Or Not. If you're feeling up to it, check out Madame Tussauds, Wondr Experience, and Heineken Experience. Walking - I recommend taking a stroll around the 9 Streets neighborhood, filled with charming little shops, vintage clothing stores, concept stores, restaurants, and cafes. This is also a perfect place to find a unique souvenir to take home, or to treat yourself to something special. Food and drink - Van Stapele Koekmakerij (cookies), Van Wonderen Stroopwaffels (caramel waffles), Chun (boba tea), Pluk (breakfast/brunch/lunch), De Laatste Kruimel cafe (breakfast/brunch/lunch), Tony's Chocolonely Bar (everything chocolate!), Polaberry (strawberries in chocolate), Vapiano (pasta and pizza), The Butcher (burgers), Vegan Junk Food Bar (no explanation needed, but I recommend the burgers), New York Pizza (best thick crust pizza). Try typical Dutch food from the vending machine at Febo or Smuller's. Snacks - My favorite snacks are frikandel, bami, and kipcorn. Order fries with mayonnaise for the full Dutch experience. Other - If you have time and you're in the mood, check out the numerous concerts, theater, dance, or cinema options available at Melkweg, Carré, Het Concertgebouw, Pathé, and other smaller venues around the city. Pathé Tuschinski is a beautiful old cinema definitely worth a visit.
Posted: December 14, 2022I grew up about 15 minutes from Amsterdam, so here are my recommendations: Museums: - Fashion for Good Museum - MOCO Museum - Fabrique des Lumieres - Van Gogh Museum (the best) - De Nieuwe Kerk - Foam Museum Other interesting things: - Canal cruise - WONDR Experience - Ice skating at Museumplein - NDSM-werf - De Negen Straatjes (nine streets) - Albert Cuypmarkt My favorite shops: - de Bijenkorf (mainly high-end goods) - De IJ-hallen (vintage/used clothing) - Zipper - Episode - Kalverstraat (shopping street with mostly chains) - We Are Vintage Food: - Syrup waffles from Van Wonderen - Fries from Vleminckx de Sausmeesters (the best in the world) - Morgan and Mees (elegant, Instagram-worthy brunch) - Twee prinsen cafe - De Hoppe cafe - Hans & Grietje cafe
Posted: November 26, 2022There are so many things to do! - Rijksmuseum (you can also sit in the historical library) - Various markets and restaurants that sell things like: poffertjes, oliebollen, stroopwafels and Dutch pannekoeken, and if you are feeling brave, fresh herring! - Markets (Albert Cuyp and Bloemen Markt) - Volendam (a really charming small village 45 minutes outside Amsterdam. Easy to get there by bus, definitely worth a day trip!) - Banksy Museum - 9 streets - Speigelgracht (opposite the Rijksmuseum. Lots of antique shops and galleries to browse) - Bijenkorf (expensive department store) - Begijnhof (small courtyard/ monastery in the middle of the city) - Tonton (funny arcade) - Markthallen (lots of food choices from around the world) - Canal cruise - Amsterdam Eye - Jewish Quarter - Anne Frank Museum (but it can be very busy, usually need to book in advance) - Lots of cozy cafes, galleries, and shops everywhere!
Posted: November 19, 2022Moco, NXT, STRAAT and Fabrique des lumieres are very nice museums with a similar climate! For breakfast/brunch, I recommend Georga, Mr. Stacks, Moak, Breakfast Club, Staring at Jacobs or Teds. For dinner, you need to make a reservation at Lolo's and Fiko, both are Italian restaurants. Cafe in the city for sushi and a pleasant atmosphere. Bar Rouge also for atmosphere/entertainment and sushi! Bangkok for Thai/Asian, it's a restaurant, it's not a very special place to sit, but the food is great. Shisho for the best takeaway sushi. Monopoly Burger or Artisani for fast food/burgers, try their waffle fries plate. Spend a day in Zaandam, in Zaanse Schans. This place is close to Amsterdam, Zaandam has a charming center, and Zaanse Schans is like an old Dutch town with windmills and other charming things. Oh, and take a canal cruise in Amsterdam at the end of the day and try stroopwafels in the center when you're there. Try poffertjes, as they are some of the best dishes that the Netherlands has to offer.
Posted: November 10, 2022If you have the chance to get to Amsterdam, I DEFINITELY recommend the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum - I'm a bit biased towards the Van Gogh Museum, but only because he's my favorite artist. The boat cruises they organize in larger cities are super interesting and are a good way to find places with interesting architecture that you can later find and photograph, while learning about the city's history. If you're able, try poffertjes (mini pancakes)! Frikandel and kroket are also super good - make sure to order fries with them! (Frikandel is almost like a sausage, but it doesn't have the typical casing like most sausages, and kroket is a breaded and fried meat ragout.)
Posted: July 27, 2022I live here, if you're looking for a cool place to eat, go to Foodhallen Amsterdam, take a boat tour, but choose one from a small company. Alternatively, you can rent a boat for a few hours, they'll tell you where to go, and steering it is very simple. Also, the Albert Cuyp market is great for trying fresh stroopwafels, and don't forget to order bitterballen at the bar.
Posted: July 21, 2022I live near Amsterdam and here are my recommendations for Amsterdam: Museums: - Fashion for Good Museum - MOCO Museum - Fabrique des Lumieres - Van Gogh Museum (the best) - De Nieuwe Kerk (there is an exhibition under the name Maison Amsterdam about fashion) - Foam Museum Other interesting things: - Canal cruise (any company is good, but I prefer Lovers) - WONDR Experience - Ice skating at Museumplein - NDSM-werf - De Negen Straatjes (nine streets) - Albert Cuypmarkt Market My favorite shops: - de Bijenkorf (mainly expensive items) - De IJ-hallen (old/second-hand clothes) - Zipper - Episode - Kalverstraat (shopping street, mainly high street shops, if you want to go shopping) - We Are Vintage Food: - Van Wonderen Stroopwafels - Vleminckx de Sausmeesters (the best fries in the world) - Morgan and Mees (a luxurious brunch worthy of Instagram) - Café twee prinsen - Café de Hoppe - Café Hans & Grietje I also recommend downloading the 9292 app for using public transport!
Posted: July 12, 2022I recommend large museums such as the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Moco Museum and Stedelijk Museum, if you like modern and contemporary art. But there are also other lesser-known museums I recommend, such as the Van Loo house-museum, the Rembrandt Museum and the Purses and Bag museum. My favourite thing to do in Amsterdam is to walk around the 9 Streets (9 Straatjes in Dutch). There are charming little shops and cafes there. I like to eat something and have a drink at Pluk, eat chocolate-covered strawberries at Polaberry, bubble tea at Chun, rich chocolate cake at Van Stapele, depending on my mood. Make sure to try the stroopwaffels from Van Wonderen, there are many to choose from and they’re all delicious. I also recommend taking a boat tour along the canal, it's very atmospheric and you can see a lot of the city. If you like burgers, for dinner I recommend The Butcher, they have several locations in the city and their burgers are really juicy. For something a bit different, I recommend This is Holland as an interesting experience. You fly in a kind of VR over Holland and learn a lot about the history of the country as a whole. Other interesting things to do are Ripley's Believe It or Not and Madame Toussaud's. Both are located on Dam Square, one of the main squares of the city, which is worth seeing. There is also The Royal Palace, worth visiting, and the Nieuwe Kerk, which sometimes hosts interesting exhibitions. Finally, a walk through the Red Light District is a must in Amsterdam. I recommend going at dusk when it's still light, but the red lights are already shining brightly. If you feel like it, check out a sex shop, live show or go to the Erotic Museum. And if you ever get hungry and fancy a snack, the Dutch love vending machine food. For a few euros from a vending machine, you can get hot fried snacks, and even burgers from places like Febo and Smullers. Be sure to try this part of Dutch culture!

Hii! 23 years old Dutch Girl living in Amsterdam. Love to meet new friends :)

I'm from Hungary but I just recently moved back from Austria. I've been looking for a place to stay for long-term but it seems I prefer the nomad lifestyle and I always have the need to be somewhere else. :P I'm the most comfortable in an international crowd. As a new chapter in my life I would like to travel now and make new connections. My first step would be Amsterdam to connect and cooperate some people there in the name of holistic healing. After that I plan to go to Portugal to relax, focus and visit some conscious events.

A gentle soul with a light heart.. I am a very sociable but balanced type of person, which helps me show my deepest respects to people who have hosted me in their houses, campsites, hotels and hostels. I have been doing solo travels and camps since 2020 in my country and met a lot of incredible people on my journey. I am in love with nature and anything natural is what I prefer first. I am into philosophy, religions, food, natural wonders, occultism and many other things... I am a talkative person as long as the person wants to maintain the conversation :) I live in Turkey and would love to host back my future hosts in Izmir, if they've come to visit here :) I live with my 4 year-old lovely and crazy-ass cat, you can check out our photos :) Hope to meet you soon,
