Groningen is an absolutely beautiful university city that is definitely worth visiting during a train trip to the north. Its stunning architecture and lively nightlife every day of the week, full of young people, are captivating. I felt very safe there.

So far so good! Still got a few days to spare, but I've seen some of the city and explored a bit on Mt own without any problems.

Based upon my personal experiences, I would say that it is certainly a lot safer than other, more well-known Dutch cities, such as Amsterdam. While I would suggest to not go outside all alone as a women when it’s dark outside, incidents with men are relatively rare and an exception to the rule. If they do, however, occur, local and international women alike are keeping an eye out for one another. They are quick to help someone out, intervene if necessary, make sure someone is okay and stay with someone until they know that person is safe.

Students mostly live here so I always feel safe even when I am walking home at 4 AM through the park. Usually the crowd dies down around 6 and students start going out to the city almost ever week day hence its very safe
